Water

Just two days ago I went to the Hippodrome State Theatre (the local hippy theater, the only one where, before each viewing, a semi-smartly dressed man introduces the movie as well as the theatre production that is going on) to watch the much anticipated movie "Water".

This is an indian movie, a piece of information which says a lot and should be taken into account by all those who go to watch it.
What I am trying to say is that one must quiet the little voice in the mind which says thing like:
"Hey, how come the main characters are the only ones who are beautiful looking??"
"How come her skin tone is so light and most indian people I know are really dark?"
"Come on, how corny is that that he is playing the flute to the sound of the background music?!??!"

There is an element to indian movies which is unique in them and that is "magic". Magical things happen.
The important thing is to not get upset by them, they are there not to impress you but to better transmit the key concept of the movie. Those magical aspects take you into a dreamy state where by accepting that strange things can happen you get further involved in the movie and it touches you even deeper.

This is more a praise to the directorship than anything else, in the same way I praise japanese movies for their great cinematographical ideas.

The actors are convincing (Narayan (aka John Abraham IV) and Kalyani (Lisa Ray) play their parts very well) but it is the plot and cinematography that is five stars.
